"Booze and Fags Won't Kill Ya" · Mar 10, 08:47 PM
Buster Martin is 101 years old and plans on running his first marathon next month. Not only does this British guy have 17 children, but he returned to work at the age of 99 saying he was bored after two years of retirement.
“If I finish, I’ll do what I always do and have a pint and a fag,” he said. “People ask what is my secret but I haven’t got one. They say fags and booze are bad for you—but I’m still here, aren’t I?”
The same is true for our very own local hero Fred Schmidt.

I took this picture as I was running and Fred was riding the Waco course at Cameron Park. All bets are on Fred this weekend for the 65+ group!
He was an inspiration to me when he ditched the “old man ride” this past Saturday to brave the Mackie Ranch Hills route with me. He even beat me up one of the first climbs, “Put in the big chain wheel!” He’s right, throw it up there if you’ve got the legs, or the booze and fags waiting for ya at the end of your ride.
