The Outback Blowout in Cameron Park Waco, TX had record attendance with over 600 racers for 2008. Kudos to the guys at Bicycle’s Outback for a well organized venue; a rapid applause for the endless volunteer hours from the Waco Bike Club; and a pat on the back to Waco’s Parks and Rec Dept. for helping to prepare the park for the race. I heard a lot of compliments about the new “Events Staging Area” in the old ball fields near Lover’s Leap. Wait till you see Cameorn Park once the centennial improvements are completed in 2010.

Local PrePro rider Sofie Moore escorts her dad, Ian Moore, for her first race ever with the 10 and Under Kids. “Dad, did I come in last?” asked the 5 year old. “No, you were just the first Sofie to come across the finish line.”

I had the opportunity to ride sweep for the 10 and under boys after I was done with my race. I was scared for some of these lil guys! The kid’s course had the ONLY expert black diamond rated trail for the weekend (including expert and pro course), and some of these guys were doing one legged drills down the rocky downhill section of “Lean To.” Keep riding boys, one day you will be able to catch up to the taller 10 and under girls who passed you on the climbs!

Another first was Carrie dominating the win in her category by over 2 minutes! She even had a fan base from Dallas come and cheer her onto her first win. You 30 year olds better watch out, cuz this lil girl is getting fast!

Carrie and her sister are like two peas in a pod.

GIVE ME A PANCAKE!! Mom was ready to race, just not sure what…

Mariah Poop made her movie star appearance once again and won lots of pets and created plenty of scenes for puppy attention. She thought the Cannondale dress made her look fat, so we quickly changed before she made the rounds at the race site. I later found it wadded up in a corner of the yard. Maybe a real race fit SoBe/Cannondale pup jersey next..with elastic for sure. A BIG thanks to Carrie’s mom and sis for watching her while we were on the bikes. Leashes and chain rings don’t mix.

I had a good race on my home turf and come home without any new blood. Christina took the fastest women’s time of the day, and I was next in line behind her followed by Leslie Reuter and Bibi Martinez. Even my boy Justin managed to finish a race this go around. Now if we can just get him on time to the start…
